Youth and Children

But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear ; do not be frightened."

Take Courage

1 Peter 3:14

St Francis seeks to cater for children of all ages.

There is a thriving ‘Mums and Babes’ group which has now been at the church for more than 25 years! This group meets on Wednesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. until noon. Despite the name, all are welcome including dads, grandparents and other carers. It is an opportunity to have a coffee and a chat whilst your child (or children) enjoys the toys on offer that week. There are regular Toddler Services held in the church which last about 15 minutes. You can take your child to these if you wish to do so.

The first Sunday of the month is an all age family service. This is great for children and allows them lots of opportunities to join in. Our Rainbows, Brownies and Guides are often there too.

Our Sunday School, currently goes by the name of Good News Club, and takes place on the second and third Sundays of the month. It runs from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. and caters primarily for 4 to 11 year olds. There is the flexibility to include the 11 – 13s in this group, working with age appropriate resources. We are currently using a teaching programme developed by Children’s Ministry. On these Sundays the children spend the first ten minutes in the service with the rest of the church and then go out to their own activities.

The fourth Sunday is a Family Communion service where children stay with their family and go out for the part of the service which includes the sermon.

The fifth Sunday, when there is one, is a parish service suitable for all ages. St Francis, St Barts and St Wilfs form the Horley Team Ministry and the service rotates around the three churches in turn.

In addition to this there is a Youth Group (11+) which meets fortnightly on Thursday evenings from 7.30 p.m. until 9 p.m. and is currently run by James and Gail Ashton. There is some spiritual content to these evenings but a large part is social!

There are other seasonal activities such as art and craft workshops at Christmas and Easter and a summer picnic. Details of these are available as and when such events are happening.
